Pee, Poop, and Sex: The Intimacies of Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapy and Application Across Practice Settings

Description:

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the general anatomy and function of the pelvic floor muscles and organs as well as explore conditions that would benefit from pelvic floor therapy. Exploring and discussing the link between occupations and pelvic health and how they contribute to overall wellness of an individual. Lastly, this course will discuss the different practice setting that pelvic floor therapy are applicable. 

Objectives:

  • Understand the general anatomy and function of the pelvic floor muscles and pelvic organs.
  • Name three conditions for which pelvic floor therapy may be useful.
  • Understand the link between occupations and pelvic health; and how pelvic floor therapy can contribute to overall wellness.
  • Understand how pelvic floor therapy concepts may be applicable in more conventional practice settings: acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, & SNF. 


There is No Health Without Mental Health: Expanding OT's Role in Mental Health and Wellness and Promoting Practitioner Mental Health

Description:

This course will explore and discuss the distinct value that occupational therapy has in mental health and wellness and how occupational therapy practitioner's must seek to have mental wellness in themselves to be effective clinicians. This course seeks to explore long term stress management strategies and skills used for acute stressors and identify how these strategies can be applied to the individual to promote a overall wellness of the occupational therapy practitioner. 

Objectives:

  • Participants will gain a greater understanding of occupational therapy's distinct value in mental health and wellness promotion, prevention, and intervention.
  • Participants will be able to differentiate between long-term stress management strategies and coping skills for acute stressors.
  • Participants will be able to identify three key personal symptoms of stress and specific coping skills to manage these symptoms. 

This course meets the CE requirement for one contact hour of mental health required for Ohio licensure renewal.



Creating Systems of Support That Prioritize Wellness

This course will help the occupational therapy practitioner to improve and integrate their understanding of mental wellness into their own practice by being able to identify a variety of ways to enhance their personal and professional practice systems by using a family system approach to provide holistic client-centered intervention. 

Objectives:

  • Participants will grow their understanding of how to integrate mental wellness practices/concepts into their occupational therapy practice.
  • Participants will be able to identify a variety of ways to enhance their personal and professional practice systems.
  • Participants will be able to identify the benefits of using a family systems approach to provide holistic client-centered intervention. 

This course meets the CE requirement for one contact hour of mental health required for Ohio licensure renewal.
